Review of Beyond Osteo-fx

As with most other Osteo Bone Support Supplements, Beyond Osteo-fx is no different in that it has synthetic vitamins, cheap minerals, antinutrients, and disproportionate dosages. Let’s take a look . . .

As you can see, we start off with (synthetic) D3, a hormone made from lanolin in this case. Unless Cholecalciferol is marked “from” a food source, it is almost always lanolin or another synthetic form. One of the things we have learned from a study out of Canada using this form is that it causes a loss of Bone Mineral Density, with exponentially increasing loss with increased doses, yet even as little as 400 I.U. led to a 1.2% loss; 4,000 I.U., a 2.4% loss; and 10,000 I.U., a 3.5% loss. Worst of all, the D3 hormone is higher than the RDI. When sourced from food, this is not such a big issue, but this is a synthetic supplement. Also, whenever D3 is supplemented, K2 MK7 is needed in proper proportion @ 100 mcg per every 1000 I.U. of D3, so this should have 100 mcg of K2 MK7. It has none! There is even more important information on D3 and K2 in the first chapter of “Opening the Doors to Reversing and Healing Osteoporosis,” which you can read from the Naturally Better Bones website.

Also, one scoop (one serving) has 1200 mg of calcium, which is tri-calcium phosphate, but also includes ” Citrate ” as one of the forms. This has been discussed many times and is found in the Antinutrients list, but Citrate pulls minerals from the bones, and creates kidney stones according to Dr. Robert Thompson, author of The Calcium Lie 2, and damages the kidneys with long-term use. Further, at 1200 mg, this is more than twice what the body can absorb at one time, which maxes out at 500 mg. Further, a Harvard study showed one needs only 500 to 700 mg daily. But calcium should come from food only unless deficient, and then this is still not the right form to supplement. It has been shown in studies that supplementing calcium, especially carbonate (regardless of being mixed with Citrate), is hard to absorb, can lead to heart attacks, strokes, kidney stones, and damage, an increased risk of fractures, constipation, and acid reflux, which in turn can lead to Leaky Gut, a known cause and agent of exacerbation for Osteoporosis.

The Phosphorous is actually phosphorous mixed with yet more calcium. How much calcium is hard to determine, but it does add more.

Another problem with this product is the Magnesium, which is also mixed with Citrate. Additionally, magnesium needs to be properly matched with calcium at 1:1 or higher (up to twice that of calcium), and this falls severely short of that.

The zinc and copper are okay, as is the MSM, and Glucosamine, though these are best obtained separately. Boron is also okay and in an acceptable form. However, none of these are at a proper dosage.

Then we have Strontium. Strontium has a number of issues involved with bone health when supplemented. It masks the bone and replaces the calcium in them, giving the appearance that they are stronger when they are not. Strontium also has some rather serious side effects, such as memory loss, and can cause blood clots and more.1

Then, we get to the part where almost every product goes south on us, the “Other Ingredients.” While Inulin is okay, it does not say organic, and I certainly don’t see where it’s needed in this formula. Nor do I see a need for fructose. But then we get to some more serious ingredients… that can actually harm your bones. Citrus Peel Extract – a concentrated form of citrus, and because citrus (citric acid) pulls minerals from the bones, just as Citrate (synthetic citric acid and highly concentrated), this could diminish bone minerals, and it’s followed with more citric acid (this is synthetic citric acid) on top of the natural, making it an antinutrient storm. Natural flavors may or may not be harmful depending on what they are. The same applies to natural color, which could be unhealthy food dyes. Last, we have Guar Gum, which, if not organic (this is not), can have some harmful effects on the gut. The remaining “other” ingredients may be acceptable, though sunflowers are a highly GMO crop and will have been sprayed with Glyphosate on top of the GMOs.

This is a typical bone support product with all the usual problems from synthetics, antinutrients, and disproportionate dosages, and is like the others I’ve reviewed, one best left alone.
